Irvine, California-based Helio Genomics, a precision liver cancer diagnostics company, has named Parminder Bhatia to its board of directors. Bhatia currently serves as Senior Vice President of Artificial Intelligence at Edwards Lifesciences, and his addition strengthens the board’s technology expertise as Helio advances its blood-based tests for detecting liver cancer earlier.
His career spans several of the biggest names in technology and medical devices. Before Edwards Lifesciences, Bhatia was Chief AI Officer at GE HealthCare, and earlier he held artificial intelligence and machine-learning science roles at Amazon. That experience gives him a broad view of how AI can be developed and scaled responsibly within clinical and tightly regulated healthcare environments.
For Helio, the appointment adds senior AI leadership at a moment when the company is expanding a diagnostics platform that depends on machine learning to interpret complex biological signals. Helio develops AI-powered, blood-based tests focused on the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma — the most common form of primary liver cancer — where identifying disease sooner can meaningfully improve patient outcomes.
